RLCS Season 2 Recap: Week 1

This past weekend marked the beginning of League Play for the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS). The top 8 North American and European teams qualifying for League Play faced off in their first of four weeks of BO5, “Round-Robin” matches. Every game mattered, as wins contributed to each team’s standings. The top 6 teams from each region will move on to the Regional Playoffs, getting one step closer to a coveted spot at the RLCS LAN and a chance to win the $50,000 1st place prize.

Here’s what happened week 1 of RLCS season 2:

North America

NA League Play was full of surprises. One of the biggest surprises was Take 3 who took down both G2 & Kings of Urban in intense 3-2 series lead by phenomenal play from Rizzo. Returning RLCS Season 1 Champions, G2 had a tough go of the 1st week also being upset by the synchronous teamplay of underdog Revival in a 3-0 sweep. Deception put up a great fight but were defeated by both Exodus and Vendetta 3-2. Genesis had a dominant performance taking down Vendetta & Revival 3-1 in both series.

More surprises were to be found in EU League play. Red Eye made their mark with a shocking 3-0 sweep of crowd (& Twitch chat) favorite OhMyDog while taking FlipSid3 Tactics to game 5 before being defeated to end the series 3-2. Mockit Aces, lead by unbelievably acrobatic goals from Deevo & tactician Paschy90, took down OhMyDog (3-2) and overcame the challenge of Summit’s Neo Tokyo map pick to win the series 3-1. REUNITED (the newly acquired Supersonic Avengers) came together to defeat Summit 3-1 but narrowly were defeated by Precision Z 3-2 in that set. Last, but not least, Northern Gaming demonstrated their dominance sweeping Precision Z 3-0 to end the first week of League Play.
